Requirements
The Red Apprentice/Trainee card acts as an identification card during on-site training periods. It is available for new entrant trainees as follows:
- Those without prior experience who are registered for an NVQ/SVQ Level
2 or 3 (but who have not yet achieved the qualification) and are employed
in the plumbing and mechanical engineering services industry.
- Adult Trainees who do not have directly relevant industry experience,
but who have experience of similar work in other industrial sectors,
which their employer believes suits them for training for employment in
the plumbing sector and who are registered for an NVQ/SVQ Level
2 or 3 (but who have not yet achieved the qualification)
Before an Apprentice/Trainee card can be issued trainees must either:
- Provide confirmation that they have completed the appropriate Health and
Safety Units from the NVQ
- Complete the JIB-PMES touch screen health and safety test
- Complete a CITB approved one day safety course (the JIB-PMES should be
contacted to ensure the course is approved)
- Applicants must also submit a completed application form sections 1,2,3,4 & 15
Apprentice /Trainee cards are valid for five years, or until the card holder
is eligible for the Blue Card.

Please note students registered on 6129 (VRQ) courses are not eligible for
CSCS cards.They can apply for JIB-PMES "Student Registration cards"
Plumbing and Heating Fitter apprentices engaged through JTL Managing
Agency should contact JTL. It is JTL who are responsible for issuing
registration cards for their apprentices.
